Abstract:
Objective To investigate the prevalence of job burnout among couriers, analyze the influencing factors, and provide scientific advice for reducing its incidence.
Methods From April to December 2024, a cross-sectional study was conducted among 227 couriers in Mentougou District, Beijing, using stratified cluster sampling. The Chinese version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS) was used to assess job burnout levels, and the Core Occupational Stress Scale (COSS) was used to evaluate occupational stress. A multivariate unconditional logistic regression model was established to analyze influencing factors of burnout.
Results A total of 216 valid questionnaires were collected, yielding a response rate of 95.15%. Job burnout was observed in 154 couriers (71.30%), occupational stress in 81 couriers (37.50%), and both burnout and stress concurrently in 60 couriers (27.78%). Logistic regression analysis showed that couriers with non-agricultural household registration had a 3.341-fold higher risk of burnout compared with agricultural household registrants (
P < 0.05). For each one-point increase in occupational stress score, the risk of burnout increased by 4.9% (
P < 0.05). There was no significant association between working hours, living environment, and couriers’burnout levels (both
P > 0.05).
Conclusions The prevalence of job burnout among couriers in Mentougou District, Beijing, was high. Couriers should enhance awareness of occupational health and prioritize physical and mental well-being. Enterprises and platforms should establish and implement occupational health management systems, control reasonable workload intensity, and improve rest and living conditions. Government agencies should strengthen labor protection policies for emerging employment sectors to jointly reduce the incidence of burnout.
