Analysis of characteristics of pre-hospital treatment of 2 583 road traffic injury patients in 2014

  • Objective To understand the characteristics of the road traffic accident victims received with pre-hospital treatment in Zhenjiang city in 2014. Methods The data of the victims,aged over 14 and received with pre-hospital treatment was reported,including age,gender,the accident date and time,the patients' damage type and location, etc. Results Among 2 583 victims,there were 1 455 male cases (56.3%)and 1 128 female cases(43.7%). The maximum age was 93 years old,with the mean age(46.49 ±15.58)years old. October was the most troubled time(336 cases in this month,13.01%),while the minimum accidents occurred in February(107 cases,4.14%). Daily 8:00-9:00 was peak time of accident occurrence(194 cases,7.51%), while 3:00-4:00 was valley time (9 cases,0.35%). Head and limbs were the most common site of injury body,accounting for 78.17%. Two hundred and twenty cases were injured in two or more body parts accounting for 8.52%. The number of case with different degree of severity was 124 cases with serious(4.81%), 647 cases with moderate(25.04%)and 1 812 cases with mild(70.15%). Conclusion In Zhenjiang city, young male took up the majority of traffic injuries. The accidents occurred mostly in October and during 8:00-9:00. Head and limbs were the most injured body parts.
