Effect of individualized occupational-health education on improvement of mental health condition of patients with occupational diseases

  • Objective To observe the effect of individualized occupational-health education on improvement of mental health condition of patients with occupational diseases. Methods Totally 526 occupational disease inpatients were randomly divided into two groups; the patients in intervention group received additionally occupational health education except for the routine treatment and nursing. The mental health condition of these patients was assessed with questionnaire of symptoms check list-90(SCL-90)at the beginning, one month later and at discharge,respectively. Results After treatments the patients in the intervention group had lower scores of SCL-90 in 5 sections, namely somatization, obsession, depression, enmity and anxiety (P<0.05 or 0.01), compared with the patients in the control group, or compared with those at the hospitalization time. Furthermore, the patients in the intervention group mastered more knowledge on recognizing and managing occupational hazards,on their rights and interests in the employed units, and they had more trust in the medical doctors and showed more active and stable emotion(P<0.01). Conclusion The individualized occupational-health education played important role to improve both the mental health condition and knowledge on recognizing and managing occupational hazards of patients with occupational diseases.
