KAP of occupational health management personnel on occupational disease prevention and control in a city

Objective  To understand the KAP on occupational disease prevention and control of occupational health managers.

Methods  Using the cluster sampling method, 882 occupational health managers in a district were studied with online survey.

Results  The occupational health managers with different background had different KAP scores, such as the age, the gender, the educational level and service time (P < 0.05). It showed that the young, the male and lower educated managers got lower scores. The survey also showed that the personnel with higher monthly salary, or knowing correctly use of PPE got a higher score. There was a weak positive correlation among the scores of knowledge, attitude and practice (behavior) (r_s=0.14-0.25, P < 0.01). It showed that 54.9% surveyed occupational health management personnel liked to obtain the knowledge of occupational health in the form of listening to expert lectures.

Conclusion  The occupational health management personnel's background, such as gender, age, educational level and service time affects their KAP on occupational disease prevention and control. Standardized education and training have an important impact on improving safety attitudes and reducing occupational injuries at work.
