Investigation on first-aid knowledge condition and influencing factors among community residents in Deyang City

  •   Objective  To investigate on first-aid knowledge condition and influencing factors of community residents in Deyang City, so as to provide reference for the development of training programs.
      Methods  A total of 823 community residents in Deyang City were surveyed with the general information questionnaire and the pre-hospital first aid knowledge questionnaire.
      Results  Totally 811 valid questionnaires were collected by this survey. The average score of first aid knowledge was(9.75 ±2.83). The correct rates of the five dimensions from high to low were: the first aid telephone dimension(98.8%), the first aid dimension of accidental injury(62.8%), the first aid dimension of foreign body in airway(47.1%), the first aid dimension of trauma(20.3%), and the first aid dimension of cardiac arrest(11.6%). The accuracy rate of trauma first aid and cardiac arrest first aid was the lowest. The highest accuracy rate of emergency telephone was 98.8%, while the lowest accuracy rate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation was 27.9%. Teachers, students, medical staff, police officers, had junior college or above, or received emergency training were the influencing factors for first aid knowledge score of community residents in Deyang City(adjusted model R2=0.481, F=142.176, P < 0.01). These residents had higher scores of first aid knowledge.
      Conclusions  The first-aid knowledge of community residents is at a low-medium level. The government and relevant institutions should explore and establish the first-aid training mode for community residents, increase the popularization and publicity of on-site first-aid knowledge, expand the coverage of training and start from school education, and adopt different training methods according to different types of occupation and educational background of residents, so as to continuously improve the public's first-aid knowledge level and establish the self-help and mutual rescue system.
